Howdy and/et bonjour!

I say elsewhere that what I do is make weird shit from words, mud, and excited electrons. And that’s it. Thankfully, this substack fits nicely into two of the those categories. So, here I am.

This collection of words and excited electrons derives in large part from the work I do at atelier tushu, my ceramics and writing workshop located in deepest darkest Normandy France. There (and here, strangely enough!), amidst green fields absolutely packed full of ambling milk and cheese, I make stuff that flits around the real and unreal, the sensible and senseless, the stuff you can nod your head at and the stuff you can only shake it at.

I’m most interested in questions of what we believe, how and why we believe it, and the role of material and conceptual tools in making sense of it for ourselves.

Field notes, these Field Notes, are where I explore in a little more detail some of the thinking, some of the making, and some of the consequences that emerge from a practice built on these questions.

I also make some really traditional ceramic stuff too, but for that, I leave you to your own discoveries and questions.
